6:17 pm - 50th Reunion

buffys_beasley
Actually the reunion dinner is tomorrow, tonight is just a get together at the hotel with the out of towners who have already arrived. We are all within 2 years of each other allowing for being held back or skipped. I am not the only wrinkly fat lady in the group. Why am I nervous? Why do I care? These people and I were not exactly the Scooby Gang. Some of them were downright hateful and nasty to me. Most were just indifferent. Perhaps I can fade into the band room and become invisible.

7:07 pm - Microwave ovens are realy mis understood.
cron899

Using a microwave oven beyond just reheating of foods and drinks can be quite difficult. Most of us have some kind of training in using a conventional oven properly and there are a huge number of cookery programs on TV to give helpful tips and advice on cooking times and temperatures. Microwaves however are completely different with very little help available and cookbooks being few and not widely promoted. Here is a guide to the general use of your microwave oven.
When using your microwave oven do not always blast everything at full power, as to so extent microwaves will cook foods in similar ways to your conventional oven and you do not cook everything at full power with your conventional oven as you end up with the food burnt on the outside and not cooked in the middle. The same effect can occur with dense items of food in a microwave oven if the food is cooked on too high power. The thing to remember with microwaves is that they penetrate the food only to a certain depth and by reducing the power this allows the heat to disperse through the food and cook it evenly and thoroughly.
To observe how your microwave cooks put in a stew and try it on full power you will notice after a couple of minutes the liquid near the outer edge of the container is bubbling and very hot and that in the middle will probably be still be cold. If you reduce the power and cook for a longer period of time you will notice that the heat has dispersed further into the liquid. Remember though that you will still have to stir the liquid and leave all microwave food to stand for at least two minutes before serving it.
Using your microwave oven to cook is much more economical than when using a conventional oven and because it does not generate heat will keep your kitchen cooler and is generally cleaner than using a conventional microwave oven.

The Bronzers Reunited Party

Saturday 16th February 2008

El Rey Theatre, Los Angeles

Do you have your tickets yet?

The BRP - Bronzers Reunited Party - is a charity event to be held at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday the 16th of February 2008 to raise money for Equality Now.

In 1998 a wonderful committee arranged a gathering in LA for Bronzers from around the world to meet up and celebrate not only Buffy and Angel, but also a friendship created while simultaneously raising money for charity. As the show came to an end so did the parties.

So, in celebration of the wonderful times we had, a few of us Bronzers have decided to create a tenth anniversary reunion event in memory of the Posting Board Parties. We have aspired to keep the party as close to the original PBPs as possible (though it is not the PBP and no infringement is intended upon the committee who ran it).

The BRP itself will begin at 6pm. There will be a DJ playing music in between the evenings activities, however, not too loud so you can still chat to your fellow Jossverse fans! We have two fantastic bands playing for you: Darling Violetta & Four Star Mary! To raise as much money as possible we also have a charity auction with a number of amazing lots, perhaps the most exciting being Giles' coat from the episode 'The Gift'! We will also have a few stalls selling Bronzer related merchandise and, representing Equality Now, fireflystore.net

As with previous years VIPs have been invited, however, please be aware that we cannot guarantee attendance, they are not contracted to turn up - although we have had a very positive response so far!

The party will finish at midnight. We have arranged transport to and from the venue from the Renaissance Hotel - where we have acquired a special rate if you call and tell them you're with the Bronzers Reunion.

There will also be a Pre-Party held the night before, Friday 15th of February, at L'Scorpion on Hollywood Blvd. As many of you may know, it's owned by an ex-Buffy cast member! Entertainment will be provided, and it will be a great chance to meet up with your fellow attendees! We will also be holding a raffle with two winning prizes - access to the VIP room at the BRP!!! Please also be aware that the Pre-Party is for over 18s only as it is a night club - the BRP itself is open to all ages as long as under 18s are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

We know not everybody can make the pre-party so we have two ticket prices:
$85 for just the BRP & $120 for both the Pre-Party & the BRP (only 250 of these are available).

If you are interested in attending, or just want some more information, then please visit www.sliqueevents.com to purchase your tickets via PayPal. However, we know that not everyone has PayPal, so, if you would like to pay by cheque then please contact tickets@sliqueevents.com for more information.

For a list of available items for our auctions, and to meet other attendees then please join the forums at www.sliqueevents.com/forum

Once costs have been covered all monies, and monies from the charity auction and raffle, will go to Equality Now, a charity close to Joss' heart - For further information on Equality Now, and the work they do, please visit www.equalitynow.org

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in February and raise as much money for charity as possible!

5:13 pm - Angel Investigations, we help the helpless...

bdbdb
If there is one thing that I have learned from watching tv, it is that the real definition of a hero is one who tries to Help the Helpless, something Angel and company showed me how to do for five seasons. I don't have money to donate to the hurricane victims and relief agencies, but I do have the desire to help. I saw this auction on eBay and thought about how much we all love to collect these treasures from our favorite TV shows and how much money changes hands in fandom with the memorabilia and collectibles and whatnot.

Here is what I am going to do:
If you will make a donation of $50 or more to any charity collecting money for Hurricane Katrina relief, I will send you one of the flyers for free. (Click here or here or here for screencaps showing the flyer.) You get to pick which charity or organization means the most to you. You get to make the donation yourself. You get a neat souviner from the set of Angel, and a few of the helpless in the world right now get some help.

What if I have already donated?
As far as I am concerned, that counts!

What if I want to donate to more than one charity, but I don't have enough to send them all $50?
As long as your donation totals $50, I think that is just fine. There are many organizations who are helping people right now, and if you want to support more than one that is wonderful.

If I donate $100 can I have two flyers? If I donate $150 can I have three?
If having more than one flyer is what it takes to get more money donated, I'm happy to send you more than one. :)

What about envelopes and postage?
I have no way of knowing how many people are going to think this is lame and laugh at me, and how many are going to want to participate. :) For right now I will pay the cost of shipping and supplies. If that changes, I will post about it here. (Remember, If I had a lot of money to do this, I would have made a donation myself. This is my way of trying to help out without having extra money. If this thing takes off and a lot of people want flyers, I will gladly accept a few dollars for envelopes and postage. If anyone donates money to me for these things and I wind up not needing it, I will take whatever is not used and donate it to charity. For right now let's just see what happens with this...)

What exactly is this flyer? Why do I want it?
This is the Angel Investigation flyer that was used in the Angel sesaon 3 episode "Provider". There are links to screencaps of it above. FOX and VIP Auctions are selling one on eBay for a lot of money. This is the same flyer. I don't have a snazzy certificate of authenticity to provide, but what I have came directly from the art department of the show so I can guarantee that it is the same thing. If you have to ask why you would want one, you probably don't want one. Move along, nothin' to see here...

I don't have money to donate, but I have/can donate goods and/or my time. Does that count?
You are the best judge of how much in goods you have donated. You are the best judge of how much time you have donated. You know how hard you have worked. If you tell me you have earned a flyer, I am happy to send you one along with my thanks.

So wait... You don't want a receipt or proof or anything?
Nope. This is the honor system. I have to believe that this is a world worth fighting for, and that means people are basically honest and want to help. Please don't prove me wrong.

Let's go to work... What do I do?
1. Make a donation of money, goods, time etc.
2. E-mail me about your donation. How much? What goods? How did you volunteer? Include your address so I can send you the flyer. If I decide to list those who donated, what name do you want me to list for you? Send this info to bdbdboing@yahoo.com
3. Repost this message anywhere you feel would be appropriate. Your own journals, websites, communities etc. This is a public post, so feel free to link back to http://www.livejournal.com/users/bdbdb/207930.html

ETA: The auction ended at a price of $212.50!

Any updates will be posted in my own live journal, in this post.

Someone once said (quite scornfully) that the Saturday night at the Birmingham UKPBFP was just an excuse for drunken mayhem.
I disagree - I think it's wrong to just limit it to just the Saturday.

Congratulations to all those that survived last night, and good luck to all the people that are travelling down today to join us.
